Sukiyaki.

Known in Japan as the "friendship dish" because it appeals to foreigners. Thinly sliced beef stir-fried with celery, mushrooms, spinach and scallions and served in broth. (Can be ordered with a side of short grain brown rice, by request, which is the best way to enjoy it.)

Italian Sausage Smothered in Peppers with Spinach.

This comfort dish makes a frequent appearance on Italian bistro menus. I prepare mine with fresh spinach to make the flavors more complex. This dish is equally delicious with turkey Italian sausage instead of the usual pork and transforms it into a very low-fat entrée. (Please request turkey, if you prefer.)

Tilapia with Almond Chermoula

"Chermoula" is a Moroccan herb paste similar to Italy's pesto. This one is made with cilantro, mint and toasted almonds. A little cayenne is added to give it just a little kick.
